Online gambling has become great fun

Poker cards and chipsAs you probably know by now, I’m a great fan of casinos. When I get the time I like to visit a physical ‘real-world’ casino, but more often than not I find that an online casino satisfies my need for an adrenalin rush equally well.

I must admit that online casino games have come a long way since the 1990s when they first started making their appearance. They are now much more lifelike and have managed to duplicate a large part of the excitement offered by their real world counterparts. Many of them even have chat rooms where it is possible to interact with other gamblers.

There are two types of online casino; the first involves software that runs live on the web, so there is nothing to download. Anyone who simply wants to play a quick game of roulette without having to download a large program would probably go for this option.

The second option involves downloading the casino software onto your PC or laptop in order to play. While it takes some time to download, it only has to be done once and as a general rule this type of game runs faster than the web-based one. This is because the software is running on your own computer rather than on the web.

There are also virtual casino games and live dealer casino games. With the first type the next card or next number is generated by a so-called PRNG or Pseudo Random Number Generator. Put simply, this is a computer algorithm, which produces the closest thing possible (for a computer) to a list of random numbers.

With live dealer casinos there are actually real live croupiers who spin the roulette wheel or deal the next card. The cost of this type of online casino is much higher than the PRNG versions, which is why one gets a limited number of websites using this system.

Over the years the variety of games being offered online has increased tremendously. Nowadays I regularly play blackjack, baccarat, roulette, craps, slot machines, keno, poker and even bingo, online.

Big time gambling comes to Madrid

Posted on Mar 14, 2013 in Fun | 0 comments

As a fan of gambling, I have been excited at the news that the Las Vegas Sands Corporation has secured the £8.3 billion in funding required to start construction of Europe’s largest casino and conference centre outside of Madrid.  It certainly is good news for the recession-hit Spanish capital, although the protests have begun in earnest.  The dormitory town of Alcorcón has been chosen as the site for the centre, which will boast a massive 36,000 hotel rooms.  I wonder which room I will be staying in once the centre has been built?

It has always been a dream of mine to go to Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world, but the cost and distance have always been too much of a deterrent. But with Madrid being a lot closer, the prospect of being able to visit a EuroVegas, as the project has been dubbed, is very exciting indeed.   The first phase of EuroVegas is expected to be up and running in 2017, so I really do not have that long to wait.  Who knows, I might have made it to the original Vegas at that stage?  But I will still be dropping by Madrid for a peek – and a gamble of course.

The Sands Corporation is run by Sheldon Adelson, who built the Venetian and Palazzo hotels in Vegas as well as casinos in Macau and Singapore.

The protests against the resort appear to centre on concerns that tax changes will be made to suit Adelson’s interest in the casino.

For those into architecture, the complex will supposedly feature a replica of Times Square in New York City.

Ways to beat the winter blues

Posted on Nov 17, 2012 in Fun | 0 comments

So as I may have mentioned, I’ve been feeling the onset of winter blues recently.  I don’t normally feel this way as autumn arrives and winter approaches, and I’m pretty sure I’m not experiencing anything as serious as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).  I just feel as though I’m lacking a bit of oomph right now, and I don’t have quite as much get up and go as usual.  To overcome this, I’ve been trying to think of ways to perk up and make sure I get my mojo back.

I’ve put together a bit of a checklist, and so far I’ve been sticking to this pretty well.  I’m making a big effort to get to the gym several times a week, and get out during the daylight too for some exercise and fresh air to make sure I get a good dose of that much-needed Vitamin D.  I’ve also been looking for new inspiration in the kitchen, checking out new recipes and cooking some great veggie-packed dishes to chuck in some goodness (and I’ve stashed the takeaway menus in the drawer to avoid temptation).  I might even try some legal highs for a bit of extra invigoration.  All in all, I’m fairly sure that I’m just missing summer, what we had of it anyway, and I’m not just quite ready for the long, dark nights that are approaching.  Also on the list is booking that much-needed holiday, hanging out with friends, and planning some great nights out.  If the vitamins and exercise don’t sort it, then that lot surely will!

New age casinos

Posted on Oct 30, 2012 in Fun | 0 comments

Someone asked me the other day why I’m so into online gambling and casinos.  They said they couldn’t see the appeal, that only real life casinos could truly provide the atmosphere and buzz that makes gambling exciting.

Now I have been to casinos in my time and yes, the atmosphere is brilliant.  But that’s because it’s not simply a place to gamble.  The décor of a good casino is elegant, luxurious and classy.  Casinos are places where you get suited and booted to visit, where you drink champagne and have witty conversation with people across the roulette table.  A visit to a casino is an occasion, a night out, a social event.  The gambling takes second place to that.

Online casinos let you gamble without the pressure of looking or acting all that classy.  And this is a good thing!  You can enjoy the thrill of wagering money and experience huge wins whilst in the comfort of your own home.

I’ve mentioned before that my old mum has got into online bingo on her phone.  She used to go down to the real bingo hall regularly, but sometimes she’d struggle to get transport there, or she just wouldn’t feel energetic enough to have a night out.  By playing online she can enjoy a nice game of bingo without the stress of travel.

And before you ask, no it’s not anti-social to gamble online compared to in an environment where you’d be with friends.  Many casino websites have the opportunity to play against other people who you can chat with as the game continues.  You could make new friends on the other side of the world if you want, or you could just arrange with your real life mates to get online at the same time as you.

I don’t think online gambling will ever replace real casinos and bingo halls, just as bookkeepers websites won’t ever replace the high street shops.  There is something special about a night out with friends at a casino; it is fun and exciting, and a brilliant way to socialise.  But online gambling brings a little bit of that excitement into the humdrum of everyday life.  So many other aspects of our lives have become updated by the internet and technology, and gambling is the same. Gaming websites are simply new age casinos.

Place your bets

I’ve mentioned before how I’m very much into online gaming and gambling.  I love how you can recreate the thrill of the casino in your own home, and there’s nothing better than winning the big money jackpot.

I like to try out various online casinos since different ones offer different games and prizes.  Recently I came across Mansion casino, and I have to admit I’m a little hooked!

Mansion offer so many different types of game play, including private group playing modes which let you play against your friends.  This is perfect for me since loads of my friends are into online gambling as much as I am.  It makes the game play really social, so it’s even more exciting when you do win big prizes.  It means I can get a group of mates together with their laptops and we can have a few games of poker together, but there’s absolutely no chance of them cheating!

You can either download Mansion’s software, which offers a wide range of games and regular upgrades to ensure you’re always up-to-date, or you can play their instant play games on their website.  They have online scratchcards, progressive bonus jackpot games and all the traditional and popular casino card and table games.  And to top it all off, they also have brilliant graphics, animations and sound effects.

If you’re into online gambling like me, I definitely recommend you check out Mansion casino.  And I hope you’re lucky!
